Jovanoska’s stories are mainly focused on the everyday life of an ordinary person. Including the most unusual, sometimes bizarre, incidents and traits that distinguish her characters, her narrative is enriched with humor and sarcasm.
Biography
Simona Jovanoska was born on July 16, 1985, in Gostivar, North Macedonia. She graduated from the Faculty of Economics, Department of Marketing, and currently works as a copywriter. She has published four books to date: the short story collection “I Found Them in the Deep” (2015), “The Day of the Worm” (2021), the children’s book “The City of Wabu and Navi’s Quest” (2022) and the novel “Leska Brezoska” (2024). In 2019, she won second award in the short story contest announced by the newspaper “Nova Makedonija” for the short story “Last Floor.” In the same competition, in 2022, she won first award for the short story “Tell the Dog.” Her stories are included in the short story anthology “Dzindzudze in the land of poppies” and her first novel, “The Day of the Worm,” won the Novel of the Year Award for 2021 .

THE DAY OF THE WORM (2021)

The novel consists of 19 chapters which, when read one after the other, form a thread. The different stories touch and connect with each other, ultimately forming a complete circle. The action in the novel takes place in one day, the Day of the Worm. Starting as a fable, оver 27 characters, including both people and animals, parade through the novel. The action is intense, dynamic, and full of humor and surprises.

LESKA BREZOSKA (2024)

A coming-of-age novel about a girl who, by coincidence, has a boy’s name and at the same time receives the nickname Leska Brezoska as a child. The book explores the challenges of growing up as a young woman in provincial Macedonia during the 1990s, following her journey into her thirties. It deals with her relationships with friends and her environment, family tensions, romantic experiments and experiences, the search for herself, her dreams and ambitions—and, of course, the fears she must overcome along the way.
