His poetic world is both intimate and universal: it is deeply thoughtful and erudite, expressed through a personal point of view, but in a dialogue with the global literary tradition.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biography<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoran Anchevski <\/strong>(born in 1954 in Skopje) is a scholar, poet, translator, and essayist. He has published ten poetry collections that have been highly praised by the critics, well-received by the readers, and awarded various honors and awards, both domestic and international, such as: the <em>Studentski Zbor<\/em> award for best first book of verse (1984), the international <em>Giacomo Leopardi<\/em> award in Italy (2004), the highest national <em>Miladinov Brothers<\/em> poetry award at the International Struga Poetry Evenings festival for <em>Celestial Pantomime<\/em> (2018) and for <em>Puzzled Compasses<\/em> (2022), Grigor Prlichev award for the long poem <em>The Lives of the Horses<\/em> (2023), which also received the Macedonian Writers\u2019 Association award <em>Aco Shopov<\/em> for best book of verse (2024), among others. He has also published numerous essays, critical reviews, and studies in the field of literary theory. He has compiled and translated several anthologies of Macedonian poetry and short prose into English and has translated many significant Macedonian or Anglo-American poets into Macedonian or English. For his translation work, he received the highest national translation award <em>Grigor Prlichev<\/em> (2001). Selections of his poetry have been translated and published in more than twenty languages in numerous prominent international journals and anthologies. His <em>Selected Poems<\/em> in Macedonian and then in English were published in 2011. He is a member of the Writers\u2019 Association of Macedonia, was twice a secretary of the Macedonian PEN Center, and its president until recently.
