Biography<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Elizabeta Bakovska<\/strong> (1969) received her BA and MA at the Faculty of Philology \u201cBlaze Koneski\u201d in Skopje, from the English Language and Literature Department and holds Ph.D. in gender studies from Euro-Balkan Institute. She was the editor-in-chief of Blesok, an electronic magazine for culture and literature (www.blesok.mk). She translates, writes poetry and prose (mainly short stories), as well as literary theory and criticism. Her poetry, fiction and literary criticism have been published in English, Spanish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Greek, Slovenian, Serbian, Bosnian, Ukrainian and Montenegrin languages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n She received the first award at \u201cNova Makedonija\u201d short story annual competition (2010) and the first award at the short story competition \u201cSkopje and the 1963 Disastrous Earthquake\u201d (2016). She wrote one of the four awarded stories for children at the \u201cModern Fairy Tales from Macedonia\u201d competition (2020). She also received the \u201cAnte\u2019s Gold Coin\u201d award for unpublished poetry collection at the International Poetry and Cultural Competition \u201cAnte Popovski \u2013 Ante\u2019s Pen\u201d (2021). The book of short stories and photographs “I Write a Short Story in My Head” that she coauthored with Sasho Dimoski received the Most Creative Book Award of the Macedonian Association of Publishers (2022). In 2024 she was the poet in focus at the 36th edition of the Velestovo International Poetry Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI Write a Short Story in My Head\u201d is a collection of short stories and a photobook, a coauthorship with Sasho Dimoski. The stories in this book were written in a period of some fifty days before and immediately after the death of author\u2019s mother. They are compressed memories and thoughts initiated by this event, combined with 115 photos, from the photo archives of Dimoski, and some documentary photos from the family archives of Bakovska. \u201cThe Everything of Dreams\u201d is a collection of very short surrealistic stories, divided in five parts. In the first part, the stories are dated dreams of the author dreamt during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, while in the other parts they are short thoughts and memories often related to her family. The book ends with two longer stories dealing with home, trauma and loss.
