She contrasts urban and rural elements, plays with mythological patterns and archetypes, and draws from folklore and popular culture \u2013 music, film, and visual arts \u2013 creating a unique, captivating voice that resonates with readers.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biography<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Julijana Velichkovska<\/strong> is a writer (poetry, fiction, and children\u2019s literature), editor, translator, and poetry festival organiser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is the founder of the publishing house PNV Publishing in Skopje, a co-founder and director of the Skopje Poetry Festival, and the program director of the Velestovo Poetry Night Festival in Ohrid. She is a member of the Macedonian Writers\u2019 Association. She is a member of the European poetry platform Versopolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is the author of three poetry books: \u201cRei\u00dfverschluss\u201d (2024, 2025 \u2012 2nd edition), recipient of the highest national poetry award, the \u2018Miladinov Brothers,\u2019 presented by the Struga Poetry Evenings, \u201cOpen Book\u201d (2017), and \u201cMosquitoes\u201d (2010); a novel, \u201cSeasons\u201d (2014, 2015 \u2012 2nd edition, 2019 \u2012 3rd edition &amp; 2022 \u2012 4th edition); and a children\u2019s book, \u201cVedra\u201d (2022, 2023 \u2012 2nd edition), for which she won the Best Text in a Picture Book Award at the International Children\u2019s Literature and Illustration Festival Litera in 2023. She has also authored a monograph, \u201cXX Years of Velestovo Poetry Night\u201d (2009), and together with Slave Gjorgjo Dimoski, she co-authored \u201cFAIRIES, a panorama of Macedonian poetry by women, spanning from the 19th century to the present\u201d. She has translated the work of more than forty writers from Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Norway, Iceland, Greece, Estonia, Latvia, Serbia, Croatia, Denmark, Azerbaijan, Malta, the Faroe Islands, and Montenegro into Macedonian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her poetry has been translated into twenty languages. A selection of her poems entitled &#8220;Expecting Lions&#8221; has been translated into English and will be published by \u201cThree Spire Press\u201d in Cork, Ireland, by the end of 2025. Her children\u2019s book, &#8220;Vedra&#8221;, has been published in Azerbaijani by \u201cMDizayn\u201d in Baku, 2025. A selection of her poems entitled &#8220;Box of Fear&#8221; has also been published in Azerbaijani by \u201cZardabi\u201d in Baku, 2024. Her novel &#8220;Seasons&#8221; was translated into Bulgarian and published by \u201cErgo\u201d, Sofia, 2017. Her work has been included in many anthologies.
