His entire oeuvre is marked by postmodernism. With the novel “Pale Shadows, Distant Voices”, he made a significant stylistic shift. In his two short story collections (“Secret History” and “Black Prophets”), he wrote in the style of the fantastic and the oneiric, employing quotations, paraphrases, and borrowings from other literary works. In “Insomnia”, he abandoned strict, controlled functionality, introducing lengthy autobiographical passages and essayistic reflections. For thе novels “Pale Shadows, Distant Voices” and “Insomnia”, he received the “Racin Award” in 2001 and 2015. In 2019, Duracovski received the “October 11th” Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Duracovski is the author of the books: “Secret History” (short stories, 1986), “Black Prophets” (short stories, 1996), “Insomnia” (novel, 2000), “Pale Shadows, Distant Voices” (novel, 2014), and “Around Three After Midnight” (hybrid prose, 2025). He has been a member of the Society of Writers of Macedonia since 1989.

Outstanding title:

INSOMNIA (2001)

“Insomnia” is one of the most unusual postmodern and intermedial novels in Macedonian literature. Published at the turn of the century, it is an experimental, diary-like, and factographic prose that covers a period of one year. The novel unifies notes, impressions, memories, quotes, media excerpts, electronic messages, sketches, comics… It blurs the line between reality and art by combining facts from the specific context of a traumatic and historical crisis with a unique provincial environment and the author’s own biography, transformed into autofiction.

No. of pp: 153

Awards and honors:

“Racin Award” (2001)

Rights sold to:

Serbia

Latest title:

AROUND THREE AFTER MIDNIGHT (2025)

“Around Three After Midnight” is many things: hybrid prose, an experimental novel, an unusual diary… an embrace of the textual and the visual, of talent and knowledge… but above all, a lavish catalogue of a vast time and a profound existence.
